ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • The Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka passed an order to provide reservation for persons with disabilities in the recruitment for the post of Panchayath Development officers on the writ petition filed by the office of the State Commissioner for Disabilities. (backlog posts of 2009 recruitment also included)

    Due to the intervention of the office of the State Commissioner for Disabilities reservation for persons with disabilities in recruitment of Gazetted probationers in the State Civil Services has been made. And extra time for writing recruitment exam has been given.

  • The procedure for issuing Disability Medical Certificates has been simplified as per the directions of the Govt. of India and now the disability certificates are issued at the PHC level, Taluk level, District level and at the State level.
  • The Urban Development Department in Karnataka has issued guidelines for use of 3% reservation of funds for the benefit of persons with disabilities.
  • The Rural Development and Panchayath Raj Department has reserved 3% of the funds for the benefit of persons with disabilities and has issued guidelines for the use of the fund.
  • The Horticulture Department has issued guidelines for use of 3% reservation of funds for the benefit of persons with disabilities.
  • Reservation in admission is made for students with learning disabilities in the professional courses.
  • Due to the intervention of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, reservation in admission for Post Graduate Medical Sciences M.D, M.S, MDS etc. has been made and also reservation of seats for students with disabilities is made for MBBS, B.E and other professional courses.

In the National meeting held by the Chief Commissioner for persons with Disabilities on 9-2-2011, the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities requested to reserve funds for development of persons with disabilities in the MP funds. Accordingly Rs.10 lakhs in the MP funds has been reserved for the developmental activities of the differently abled.
